This manual describes the evolution and adoption of the Tatura orchard system, and lists a range of crops grown on Tatura-type trellises in cool climates to the tropics.

It also quotes commercial experience from fruit growers all over the world, and gives hints and instructions – so you don't make the mistakes others have made.

Fifty years ago the groundwork for the Tatura Trellis was laid at the Tatura Research Institute, Victoria, Australia. At the time, fruit growers were not only growing more wood than fruit at a considerable cost, but the way they managed the soil and irrigated their trees often led to inefficient use of water and massive tree deaths during wet years.
A complete change of thinking was necessary to come up with long term solutions to make fruit growing, especially in the Goulburn Valley of Victoria, viable, sustainable and profitable.
Two years later (1973), a multi-disciplinary team of researchers began to work on solutions and developed a blueprint for the orchardists to follow.
This manual not only describes the evolution and adoption of this blueprint, it lists a wide range of crops grown on Tatura-type trellises in cool climates to the tropics. It also quotes commercial experience from fruit growers all over the world, and gives hints and instructions – so you don't make the mistakes others have made.
